How to be Saved!

The Bible gives us a clear message of how to be saved. By this we mean how to gain forgiveness for our sin and how to gain eternal life.  No matter who you are or what you may have done God's grace and forgiveness is available right now!

1. Agree in your heart with God that you are a sinner in need of His salvation, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).  Sin is the breaking of God's law. Most people know this law to be defined by the 10 Commandments. Each law is equal in the site of God and the Bible says if you have broken just one you have broken them all. "For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it."(James 2:10) This makes us all sinners before God.  The Bible says “there is no one righteous, not even one:" (Romans 3:10)

2. Know in your heart that there is a penalty for your sin, “for the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23a).  With man's law there are differing degrees of penaties depending upon the crime.  With God there is only one penalty for sin, it is "DEATH".  The good news is that Jesus paid that penalty in full, dying on the cross for you and me. He also rose from the dead to have victory over death (sin's penalty) giving us eternal life.

3. Believe in your heart that Jesus died and shed His blood on the cross to pay the penalty for your sins.  Believe in your heart Jesus arose from the dead to give you victory over death and to give you eternal life. "Through Him (Jesus) everyone who believes is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses" (Acts 13:39). We cannot earn our salvation it is a gift from God. "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8).

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

“Being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus” (Romans 3:24). When we trust and believe in the sacrifice that Jesus made on our behalf we are justifed before God.  At the moment we believe our sins are forgiven. Our sins are covered with the blood of Christ and we appear before God just as if we had never sinned. Made righteous because of the sacrifice Jesus made. Because of what Jesus did on the cross we can now have fellowship with God and we are given eternal life. “But the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).

4. By faith pray to God and tell Him today that you believe in the sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross for you. In your heart ask Him to save you through Jesus Christ. Remember that God is more concerned with the attitude of your heart rather than your exact words. "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one would boast” (Ephesians 2:8, 9).

“If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved; for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses resulting in salvation” (Romans 10:9, 10).

“Behold, I (Jesus) stand at the door (of your heart) and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him, and will dine with him, and he with Me” (Revelation 3:20).

“But as many as received Him (Jesus), to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God” (John 1:12, 13).

The following is a suggested prayer:

Heavenly Father, I admit to you that I am a sinner in need of your salvation. I believe that Christ died on the cross and rose from the dead to pay for my sins and go give me eternal life. I believe that only through Christ can I be saved. I ask for and accept by faith your free gift of salvation. Please come into my heart and be my Savior and Lord. Thank you for doing so. In Jesus’ name, amen.
